Washington D.C. anarchists took to the streets in a black bloc march numbering in the hundreds. Multiple clashes occurred with the police, though protesters were equipped for defense and few were injured. Chants shouted included “Fuck Trump, Fuck Biden, No More Presidents!”, “Burn Down the American Plantation!” and others.
Thousands of students took to the streets of Thessaloniki to protest a law passed by the Ministry of Education which would create a university police force for the first time since the fall of Greece’s military junta. Near the end of the demonstrations, clashes between demonstrators and police occurred, with Molotov cocktails and tear gas being thrown.
Protests in Belarus are now held just as much by women as men, due to the brutal detention of women in Minsk, being tossed into unmarked vans by their hair and beaten en route to jail. Demonstrations are still concentrated in Minsk, but remain active nationwide.
French anarchists in Strasbourg lit fires across the city for New Year’s, against state repression and brutal curfew established by the government.
Hundreds of students in the island city of Heraklion in Crete marched against a proposed bill to restore police to university campuses in Greece, participating in a national mobilization against the law.
