Protesters across the US crowded Times Square and several other plazas, celebrating the announcement that Biden was the official president-elect of the United States. Civilians also cheered from their balconies, creating a sense of euphoria across the cities where celebrations occurred.
However, many were reminded that those outside celebrating Biden’s victory had not been there for George Floyd, had not been there for Breonna Taylor, and had not backed the social movements that had enabled the defeat of Trump. One Black Lives Matter demonstrator was hit by a car with Trump stickers and killed.
