Around 1000 protesters marched in Lleida for a second day to the prison where Pablo Hasel resides, a communist Catalan rapper facing charges for denouncing the Spanish monarchy. Following the arrival of police forces on the scene, clashes began to occur with barricades placed and rocks being thrown.
Protesters took to the streets in Santiago on the anniversary of the murder of Communist Revolutionary and singer Victor Jara by the US-backed fascist Pinochet regime. Victor Jara, a militant of the Chilean communist party, was arrested after the US-backed far-right coup against Salvador Allende and brutally tortured until being shot 44 times by regime forces on the 16th.
Leftists in Bern dropped a banner at the Greek Embassy in Switzerland in solidarity with Dimitris Koufontinas, a former member of the November 17 revolutionary group who entered a hunger strike on the 8th of January to demand his transfer to the Korydallos prison in Athens which would give better medical treatment of his conditions and the ability to see visitors.
